Justin Thomas ended his long drought by sealing a thrilling play-off win over Andrew Novak at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town.

Not since the PGA Championship in May of 2022 had Thomas lifted a title but the American has now added a 16th PGA Tour victory to his impressive roll of honour.

He was made to work for it but poured in a 20-footer for birdie at the first play-off hole to capture the win in style after the pair had finished the 72 holes at 17-under.

"Winning is hard, it's really hard but I've worked my butt off and stayed patient and positive," Thomas said.

"I didn't realise how much I missed winning and battling out there today was so much fun."

Thomas started the day a shot behind overnight Si Woo Kim after following a course-record 61 in round one with back-to-back 69s.

He opened with four straight pars on Sunday before making his first move with a birdie on the par-5 fifth.

Another followed on the eighth as Thomas made the turn in two-under before he holed from 24 feet on the par-5 15th for a third birdie of the day.

A bogey-free 68 set the clubhouse target at 17-under, but Thomas faced an anxious wait to find out if he had done enough to force a play-off after Novak stuck his approach into 18 to eight feet.

Novak's effort slid by and after returning to the famous 18th for the first play-off hole, Thomas made him pay, burying his lengthy birdie putt to cap off a stunning victory.
